Our commitment to accuracy and how we handle errors.
Our Commitment
Accuracy is foundational to what ThisCalc does. When users rely on our calculators for financial planning, health assessments, or engineering estimates, they need to trust the results. We take errors seriously and correct them promptly.
How to Report an Error
If you find an error in any calculator result, formula, or content on ThisCalc, please report it:
- Email: contact@thiscalc.com
- Subject line: Include the calculator name (e.g., "Error in Mortgage Calculator")
To help us investigate quickly, please include:
- The calculator or page where you found the error
- The inputs you used
- The result you received
- The result you expected (and how you calculated it, if possible)
How We Handle Corrections
When we receive an error report, we follow this process:
- Acknowledge: We confirm receipt of the report, typically within 48 hours.
- Investigate: We reproduce the issue, check the formula against source references, and determine whether the error is in the calculation logic, the content, or a misunderstanding of the tool's scope.
- Fix: If the error is confirmed, we correct the calculation or content and deploy the fix.
- Update the review date: The "Last reviewed" date on the affected calculator is updated to reflect the correction.
- Notify: If the reporter provided contact information, we let them know the issue has been resolved.
Severity Prioritization
We prioritize corrections based on potential impact:
- Critical: Errors in YMYL calculators (finance, health) that produce materially incorrect results. These are fixed within 24 hours of confirmation.
- Standard: Errors in other calculators or factual mistakes in content. These are fixed within one week.
- Minor: Typos, formatting issues, or cosmetic problems. These are addressed in the next routine update cycle.
Transparency
We do not silently change results or content. When we make a substantive correction to a calculator's logic, we update the "Last reviewed" date so users can see that the page has been recently verified. For significant corrections that affect how results should be interpreted, we add a note to the calculator's content section explaining the change.
